Rewilding of agricultural lands is a measure that often occurs by planting trees. This outstanding project goes in a different direction: it rewilds a cropland into a wetland, creating an ecological corridor between two existing wetlands.<\/span>The natural reserve \u201cFoce dell\u2019Isonzo-Isola della Cona\u201d, an area protected by the EU Habitat Directive 92\/43 and the \u201cRiserva Valle Cavanata\u201d represent areas of high ecological value included in the Ramsar Convention to protect wetlands.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

Rewilding started in 2021 in the lowlands of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, at Fossavecja, in the Municipality of Fiumicello - Villa Vicentina<\/h5>[vc_empty_space height=”10px”]<\/div><\/div><\/div>

This unique initiative proposed by the local Council for the Environment and quality of life, a body that includes environment experts, associations and politicians, played a key role in continuing activities to rewild publicly owned agricultural land. The area is also included in the Regional landscape plan that foresees the creation of an ecological corridor, restoring meadows, ponds, small woods, hedges and invasive species eradication.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>
