Uganda is one of the countries most affected by the climate crisis and severely exposed to extreme events, according to Global Climate Risk Index<\/a>. The GDP of Uganda relies as much as 25% on agriculture. Several regions of the country, like the Victoria Lake basin, are already affected by severe droughts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

Flavia Nakabuye\u2019s family comes from the Victoria Lake basin, the biggest tropical lake in the world, now at risk of desertification as a result of rainfall reduction.<\/h5>[vc_empty_space height=”10px”]<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The young activist\u2019s commitment started by looking at farmers and their worries about irregular crop harvests and increasing lack of water supply, without understanding the causes. She was worried about the inequality that affected farmers, in a country that has generated so far around 0,001% of greenhouse gas emissions globally, but is paying the consequences of the climate crisis.<\/p>\n

Charismatic and engaged in youth movements, Hilda Flavia has set up Fridays for Future in Uganda, where she started climate strikes in the capital Kampala.<\/p>\n

She raised awareness among the African young generation on climate and environmental issues, as well as on African campaigns like the Great Green Wall Initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>
