A nature positive approach is a disruptive idea that enriches biodiversity, stores carbon, purifies water and reduces pandemic risks.
Furthermore a nature positive approach, enhances the resilience of our planet.
There are many ways to engage in nature positive actions: Paying for Ecosystem Services (PES) provided by forests, grasslands, rivers or supporting biodiversity conservation and restoration, investing in biodiversity credits.
Collectively, we must rethink and re-build our societies and economies on the path to recovery: we must become nature-positive
The new European law on nature restoration introduces mandatory restoration measures in order to restore 20% of land and aquatic ecosystems by 2030. A wide portfolio of actions, such as wetlands and grasslands restoration, the creation of ecological corridors, pollinator restoration and many others can be supported by private entities who wish to contribute to reverse the decline of biodiversity.
Companies and the civil society can contribute to global goals for nature, for example making nature positive choices in the supply chains and assessing progress towards nature positive contributions.
Key elements for a successful restoration project:
- Use of sound science
- Regular monitoring and adaptive management to maximize the impacts and speed of recovery
- Take necessary measures to ensure long-term maintenance of the restored area active engagement of all sectors and stakeholders from the outset
